چکیده

Is it possible to find a formula expressing the Nielsen number N( f ) by the numbers N( ̃ f ) where ̃ f runs the set of all lifts? Such a formula seems very desirable since the difficulty of computing the Nielsen number often depends on the size of the fundamental group. Since π1 ̃ X ⊂ π1X , the computation of N( ̃ f ) may be simpler. We will translate this problem to algebra. The main result of the paper is Theorem 4.2 expressing N( f ) as a linear combination of {N( ̃ fi)}, where the lifts are representing all the H-Reidemeister classes of f . The discussed problem is analogous to the question about “the Nielsen number product formula” raised by Brown in 1967 [1]. A locally trivial fibre bundle p : E → B and a

CONSTRUCTION OF MULTIPLY FIXED n-VALUED MAPS

A self-map, either single-valued or multi-valued, is multiply fixed if every map homotopic to it has at least two fixed points. Let p : X̃ → X be a finite covering space, of degree n, of a connected finite polyhedron, and let f : X → X be a map. We lift f to an n-valued map φp,f : X̃ ( X̃ and prove that it is multiply fixed if the Nielsen number of f is greater than or equal to two. We obtain a fo...

Minimal Nielsen Root Classes and Roots of Liftings

Given a continuous map f : K → M from a 2-dimensional CW complex into a closed surface, the Nielsen root number N f and the minimal number of roots μ f of f satisfy N f ≤ μ f . But, there is a number μC f associated to each Nielsen root class of f, and an important problem is to know when μ f μC f N f . In addition to investigate this problem, we determine a relationship between μ f and μ ̃ f , ...

STABILIZERS OF FIXED POINT CLASSES AND NIELSEN NUMBERS OF n-VALUED MAPS

The stabilizer of a fixed point class of a map is the fixed subgroup of the induced fundamental group homomorphism based at a point in the class. A theorem of Jiang, Wang and Zhang is used to prove that if a map of a graph satisfies a strong remnant condition, then the stabilizers of all its fixed point classes are trivial. Consequently, if φp,f is the nvalued lift to a covering space p of a ma...

The relative coincidence

We define a relative coincidence Nielsen number Nrel(f, g) for pairs of maps between manifolds, prove a Wecken type theorem for this invariant and give some formulae expressing Nrel(f, g) by the ordinary Nielsen numbers. Introduction. In [S2] pairs of spaces A ⊂ X and maps f : X → X such that f(A) ⊂ A were considered. A relative Nielsen number of such maps was defined, i.e. a lower bound of the...

Fixed-point theories on noncompact manifolds

This paper gives three noncompact variants of Lefschetz–Nielsen fixed-point theory parallel to developments that have occurred in surgery theory. Thus, we study when a proper map can be properly homotoped, or boundedly homotoped, or even homotoped in a C bounded fashion to a fixedpoint free map. As an example, the universal cover of a compact aspherical manifold always has a fixed-point free se...
